Performance Documentation

Performance is the art form that disappears as it happens. Documentation is how any of it survives at all — which makes the camera, and the choices made with it, part of the work's history rather than a record of it.

I have been photographing and recording performance since 2013: first as research for an MA on how performance art is documented, then as a practice in its own right. Most of these projects were staged by other people. My part was to be there, and to make a record of the event that could be used, cited and kept.
